    Conquering the Everest of Maharashtra

Kalsubai, the highest peak of Maharashtra, India. Located in the Ahmednagar district, Kalsubai peak stands at an height of 1646 meters (5400 feet) which gives it the much glorified title of the 'Everest of Maharashtra'.

This peak is part of the Western ghats and Sahyadri mountain ranges. A popular destination for trekkers, it offers a spectacular view of Sahyadri mountain ranges from the top. Especially in the monsoon season, green carpet of nature captures your sight and the beauty of this place is mesmerizing.

Although it is the highest peak, reaching to the top is not very hard. In fact, the trek is categorized as medium difficulty trek but tests your endurance level (as it is a long trek). Generally, it takes around 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the top. The way to top is straight forward, you come across 3 iron ladders on the way which you need to be careful while climbing.

At the top there is a small temple dedicated to local deity, "Kalsubai".

    Some interesting facts (source: Wikipedia):

    1. Touted as the most unusual wedding, on 28 December 2014, in the presence of close family members, a couple tied knot at the temple situated on the summit.

    2. Celebrations for India's 69th Independence Day took place at the summit where the Navy unfurled the largest flag of India measuring 60 feet in length and 40 feet in breadth.
